Cleaning your Jura X8 Coffee Machine

Steps to Cleaning your Jura X8 Coffee Machine:
DRIP TRAY = DAILY DEPENDING ON VOLUME
The drip tray located at the front base of the Coffee machine needs to be emptied and/or cleaned daily.
To remove the drip tray hold the tray and slide the drip tray forward (1), once the tray is clear of the machine remove the drip tray grid (the top just pulls off (2).
COFFEE GROUNDS CONTAINER = DAILY DEPENDING ON VOLUME
The grout bin collects all the coffee grounds and should be emptied every day depending on volume.
Remove the grout bin once the drip tray has been removed, pull the grout bin upwards and out, then empty and clean.
Always empty the coffee grounds container when the machine is switched on. This is the only way of resetting the coffee grounds counter.
Make sure the waste bin is completely dry, including the metal contacts on the back of the drip tray and then replace.
RINSING THE MACHINE = AT ANY TIME
You can start coffee system rinsing manually at any time.
Place a receptacle under the dual spout (1). Then Press the P button (bottom left of display). (2).
Then press the play button associated with the display.
Press the ‘Rinse the coffee system’ button on the display to start the rinse operation.
‘Machine is rinsing’, water flows out of the dual spout. The operation stops automatically.
RINSING THE MILK SYSTEM = AT ANY TIME
Depending on the setting in programming mode, the Jura GIGA X8c prompts you to rinse the milk system or automatically performs rinsing following milk preparation.
After each milk preparation, the X8 prompts you to perform a milk system rinse.
Precondition: ‘Rinse the milk system’ is displayed on the screen.
Place a receptacle under the dual spout (1). Then Press the P button (bottom left of display). (2).
‘Milk system is being rinsed’, water flows out of the dual spout. The operation stops automatically.
CLEANING THE MILK SYSTEM = ONCE PER DAY IF MILK BASED DRINKS HAVE BEEN USED
To ensure that the milk system in the dual spout always works properly, you must clean it daily when you have been preparing milk.
If the wrong cleaning agent is used, the machine could be damaged and/or traces could be left behind in the water.
Use only original JURA maintenance products. JURA milk system cleaner is available from London Coffee Machines.
To clean the milk system, use the container supplied.
Precondition: The start screen is displayed.
Then Press the P button (bottom left of display) (1).
Following the display instructions:
Press the ‘Clean the milk system’ button.
Press the ‘Start’ button.
Press the ‘Next’ button.
Place the container under the dual spout (2).
Cleaning agent for milk system – Add a capful of milk system cleaner to the rear part of the container (3).
Press the ‘Next’ button.
Now we Connect the milk tube, remove the milk pipe from the milk container and connect the milk pipe to the container (4) for milk system cleaning.
Caution! Make sure the milk pipe is fitted to the container correctly, the pipe must be fitted with a connector.
Press the ‘Next’ button.
‘Cleaning milk system’, the dual spout and the pipe are cleaned.
The operation stops automatically.
Your X8 is once more ready for use.
DUAL SPOUT = WEEKLY IF MILK CLEANING CYCLE IS PERFORMED DAILY
The dual spout must be dismantled and rinsed daily if milk has been prepared to make sure it functions perfectly and also in the interests of hygiene.
Remove the milk pipe (1) and rinse it thoroughly under running water.
Pull the cover of the dual spout up and off (2).
Remove the milk system from the dual spout (3).
Dismantle the milk system into its individual parts (4).
Rinse all the parts under running water. If there are severely dried-on milk residues, firstly immerse the individual parts in a solution of 250 ml cold water and 1 capful of JURA milk system cleaner. Then rinse the parts thoroughly.
To Reassemble the milk system. Fit the assembled individual parts back in the dual spout and press it firmly. Fit the cover of the dual spout and connect the milk pipe to the dual spout.
COFFEE BREWER CLEAN = WHEN PROMPTED BY THE MACHINE OR CAN BE INITIATED MANUALLY EVERY WEEK DEPENDING ON VOLUME
After 180 preparations or 80 switch-on rinses, the X8 will prompt you to clean it.
If the wrong cleaning agent is used, the machine could be damaged and/or traces could be left behind in the water.
Use only original JURA maintenance products, and JURA cleaning tablets available from London Coffee Machines.
The cleaning programme lasts approximately 20 minutes. Do not interrupt the cleaning programme. The quality of cleaning will be impaired if you do so.
Precondition: ‘Clean machine’ is displayed.
Press the P button (1).
Press the ‘Start’ button.
Press the ‘Next’ button.
Empty the drip tray and (2) coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine.
Place a receptacle under the dual spout (3).
Press the ‘Next’ button.
‘Machine is being cleaned’, water flows out of the dual spout.
The operation is interrupted, ‘Add cleaning tablet’. Open the cover behind the bean container (4). Insert a JURA cleaning tablet into the filler funnel. Close the cover.
Press the ‘Next’ button.
‘Machine is being cleaned’, water flows out of the dual spout repeatedly.
The operation stops automatically.
Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container (2) and put them back into the machine. Cleaning is now complete.
DESCALING THE MACHINE = WHEN PROMPTED BY THE MACHINE
The X8 builds up deposits of limescale over time and automatically prompts you to descale it when necessary. The degree of calcification depends on the hardness of your water.
INFO – If you are using a CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridge, you will not be prompted to descale. If you are going to Descale you should only do it when adding a new filter.
CAUTION – If the descaling agent comes into contact with the skin or eyes, this can cause irritation.
Avoid contact with the skin or eyes.
Rinse off the descaling agent with clean water. Should you get any descaling agent in your eye, see a doctor.
CAUTION – If the wrong descaling agent is used, the machine could be damaged and/or traces could be left behind in the water.
Use only original JURA maintenance products, these are available from London Coffee Machines.
CAUTION – If the descaling operation is interrupted, there may be damage to the machine.
Allow the descaling programme to run to the end.
CAUTION – If the descaling agent comes into contact with sensitive surfaces (e.g. marble), damage cannot be ruled out.
Clean up any splashes immediately.
The descaling programme lasts approximately 45 minutes.
JURA descaling tablets are available from London Coffee Machines.
Precondition: ‘Decalcify machine’ is displayed.
Press the P button (1).
Press the ‘Start’ button.
Press the ‘Next’ button.
Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine (2).
Remove and empty the water tank (3).
Completely dissolve 3 JURA descaling tablets in a receptacle holding 600 ml of water. This may take several minutes.
Pour the solution into the empty water tank and insert it into the machine.
Place one receptacle under the dual spout and another under the hot-water spout (4).
Press the ‘Next’ button.
‘Machine is being descaled’, water flows repeatedly out of the dual spout and the hot-water spout.
The operation is interrupted, Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container (2) and put them back into the machine.
Remove the water tank and rinse it thoroughly (3).
Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the tank.
Place one receptacle under the dual spout and another under the hot-water spout (4).
Press the ‘Next’ button.
‘Machine is being descaled’, the descaling operation is continued.
The operation is interrupted, ‘Empty drip tray’ (2).
Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine.
Descaling is now complete.
If the descaling operation stops unexpectedly, rinse the water tank thoroughly.
CHANGING THE FILTER
Once the filter cartridge stops working (depending on the water hardness setting), the X8 will prompt you to change the filter.
CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridges are available from specialised dealers.
Precondition: The filter symbol at the bottom of the display lights up red.
Remove and empty the water tank (1).
Open the filter holder (2) and remove the old CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridge (3).
Insert a new CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridge into the water tank, exerting slight pressure.
Close the filter holder. It will click into place audibly.
Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the tank.
‘Saved’ appears briefly on the display. The machine has automatically detected that you have just changed the filter cartridge.
‘Filter is being rinsed’, water flows directly into the drip tray.
Rinsing of the filter stops automatically.
Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container and put them back into the machine (4).
Your X8 is once more ready for use.
If the filter is active, this is indicated by a blue filter symbol at the bottom of the display.
CLEANING THE BEAN CONTAINER
Coffee beans may be covered with a slight oil film which remains on the walls of the bean container and on the aroma preservation cover.
These traces may negatively affect the coffee result. For this reason, clean the bean container and the aroma preservation cover from time to time.
The bean container cover is lockable (spanner supplied as standard).
Precondition: ‘Fill bean container’ is displayed.
Switch the machine off with the On/Off button Q.
Remove the aroma preservation cover.
Clean the bean container with a soft, dry cloth.
Fill the bean container with coffee beans and close the aroma preservation cover.
DESCALING THE WATER TANK
Limescale deposits may form in the water tank. To ensure correct function of the machine, descale the water tank from time to time.
Remove the water tank.
If you use a CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridge, remove this.
Completely fill the water tank and dissolve 3 JURA descaling tablets in it.
Leave the water tank with the descaling solution for several hours (e.g. overnight).
Empty the water tank and rinse it thoroughly.
If you use a CLARIS Pro Smart filter cartridge, insert this again.
Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water and reinsert the tank.
